In the summer of 2013, Jacob Nzuma was scheduled to be the driver for SeaVuria’s small professional development team as we led teacher training in rural Kenya. Always smiling, Jacob turned out to be not only a wonderful driver, keeping us safe and getting us to our appointments on time, but also (much to our surprise) an amazing game driver, spotting animals lying in the grass and showing us this breathtaking ecosystem. Our daily commutes through the stunning beauty of Kenya became mini-safaris, both serene and exciting as many of us saw herds of elephants, running giraffes, and regal lions in their natural habitat for the first time.
On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
SeaVuria is partnering with Rotary International on a two-year Vocational Training Team Grant. Rotary International will fund a team of 7 science, math and technology teachers (the vocational team) to work with the 10 Kenyan SeaVuria schools and 7 Barringo schools to help them improve their teaching techniques from the current didactic approach to one that is interactive, hands-on, relevant, meaningful and engaging. Each year, SeaVuria participates in the Seattle Foundation’s #GiveBig event, a one-day online giving opportunity to raise funds for nonprofit organizations serving Greater Seattle. This year, the Early Giving scheduling of donations begins on April 27th, with #GiveBig itself taking place on Wednesday, May 10 from midnight to midnight Pacific Time.
